Is The Dream Achieved

By Brandon Johnson

Will You Ignorant Niggers Pleasssse Shut the Hell Up. Is this it? Is this what I got all those ass whipping for? I had a dream that one day little black boys and little black girls would drink from the river of prosperity. Freed from the thirst of Oppression. But Lo and behold, some 4 decades later what have I found but a bunch of trifling, shiftless, good for nothing Niggas. And I know some of you do not want to hear me use that word. It is the ugliest word in the English language. But that is what I see Niggers. And you don't want to be a nigger because niggers are nothing but a living contradiction. Niggers are full of unfulfilled ambition. Niggers love to watch and wane. Niggers love to complain. Niggers love to hear themselves talk and hate to explain. Niggers love being another man judge and jury, Niggers love to procrastinate til it is time to worry. Niggers love to be late and hate to be in a hurry. ....You Niggers have nothing to celebrate.

Martin Luther King Jr. on Boondocks on January 15. 2006

"Niggas" by Asherua

Funny but so true. We are celebrating the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. today, but would King be happy with where his black people are today. Would King be proud of what we have accomplished since his death? King fought for us to have the same opportunities as the white suburban children. He fought so that our schools could teach African American students along side White Children. He fought so that black and white children could go to the same places, play together and grow together. But most importantly, he fought so that black children could experience the same success as white children could. Is this what we have today?

The speech above is from an episode of Boondocks, yet it attacks many of the issues of Black America. Have we become the word Nigger? Our music has degenerated to songs called "Laffy Taffy", and "Getting Some Head". happy with C's and D's as grade saying "As Long as they get the credit". Our people are happy with jobs instead of careers. We cannot get to class or work on time, but have the nerve to complain that the white man is holding us back. We can find all the problems wrong with the American President, but cannot find out what wrong with our children. What is wrong with us. Why can we not come together? Why is it that the Black church no longer has the power that it had during the 1960's. Why must we make a fool out of ourselves in the streets cursing, being loud, with pants down to our crack blasting raunchy music? Why? Overall as a people, we just do not strive for excellence anymore and it hurts .

Don't get me wrong. I recognize that there are some moves being made by many African Americans that are positive. There are some black people making moves in the right step. Kanye West, Jay-Z, Oprah, Sean Combs, and Will and Jada Smith are all making positive steps. These people are inspirations to our children and a success of our people. They show us success without being typical. They ask us to take responsibility for the art and image we send out. Will Smith said on his latest album that hip hop is lost. Artists are no longer thinking. He says "Lost/Is when you hide behind the freedom of speech/While sure you're free to do it/But what it mean to do it/Did you mean to do it/Did you need to do it/Did you take time to think about the seeds you ruined". I do not think we all think on that level on consequences. I do not think many who are in power are trying to lead us but rather profit off of us. They constantly put the images about us out in the public. Also, those who do not are often label sell out and lame such as Oprah, Smith, and so many others.

The ones we follow are the ones who look out for self. They put out images that constantly tell people that we are this is black people. They are the ones who preach getting money fast by any mean necessary? Who teach that having sex makes you a man, and our women are hoes who need to show their body and sleep with the man they like or love. We have followed them because it is evident in our children lives. Young men selling drugs enslaving their brother. Successful men and women leaving their brothers and sisters in the hood not sharing their knowledge and wisdom with them. For what? To gain their own wealth at the expense of others, and to protect their wealth by getting away from the poor.

We have no more unity. We live in our self need and above all our greed. We teach victimizing and manipulating. We teach that being educated is lame and being a pimp and player is cool. We teach our women that saving your bodies will chase men away so show it and give it men. We teach men to worry about themselves and our women to be whores. We teach that in confrontation, to knuckle up and fight. We do not teach non violence. We do not teach patience. We do not teach hard work. We do not teach Unity. But on the third Monday of every January, we celebrate the birthday of a man who dream died with him in 1968.

We are still niggers as a people, and at are lowest since 300 years ago when we were first brought here. The drug abusers and drug sellers are the field niggers serving and depending on someone else so when they fell, it the independent party's fault. . The top drug dealers and educated ones are the house niggers because they get big and try to separate themselves from the Field Niggers by exploiting them for their own image to the master. Then the rich and successful one are the Free Niggers because they move away from the other niggers and try to act as if they are no longer black treating us like the racist. Not all of us fit into these categories, but as a whole, this is our breakdown. The few who do not fit in these categories try to help our people through their knowledge, wisdom, and work. But are often ignore, by a generation that is stubborn in their ways. Nonetheless, the dream of King has digressed and we are still niggers. Still niggers.
